Daniel's story (name changed)
Daniel came to JobFit with a part-time supermarket job and a clear idea thathe wanted to move into a professional career. Getting there wasn't straightforward, as anxiety, particularly around public speaking and group settings, had affected his confidence in learning and interviews before. He also has Dyspraxia, which can make planning and coordinating tasks harder without the right support. The area he lives in is one of the most deprived in Scotland, where opportunities can be harder to come by.
He joined our Workplace Skills for the Creative Sector course and jumped straight in from the start. He worked on his CV, prepared for standard and competency-based interviews, and got to grips with Microsoft Office, picking up accredited certificates in Data Protection and Microsoft Packages along the way. He also learned how to identify the transferable skills he'd built up in his supermarket job, and how to talk about them in an interview.
Working alongside other learners helped too. Sharing experiences and problem-solving as a group improved his confidence in group settings.
By the end of the course, Daniel was ready for interview. He attended his guaranteed interview with a well-known law firm, and the preparation paid off, he was able to set out his skills and experience clearly, and was offered the position. He's now completing a Business Administration SCQF 6 Modern Apprenticeship with the firm, settling into the role, and the employer is delighted with how he's fitted into the team.
