Barista Skills Academy - starts on 22nd of June

JobFit partnered up with Hub International and is now open for referrals to the Barista Skills Academy.

Build the skills and move into work in the Hospitality sector. Whether you’re starting out, changing career or upskilling, you’ll get practical training, recognised accreditation and a guaranteed interview with Costa Coffee!

Course content

  • Accredited Barista Training 

  • An insight into the sector from industry professionals

  • CV building and interview skills support

  • A guaranteed interview with Costa Coffee or other recruiting employer within Hospitality Sector

  • Signposting to further support from suitable employability service providers

This course is available for Edinburgh residents only, aged 16 or over, with the Right to Work in the UK, who are either unemployed or facing in-work poverty and have barriers to employment and are not in full-time education; confident in using English.

HABC Level 2 Award in Barista Skills (RQF)

Over ten days learners will develop a strong understanding of the world of coffee including where it comes from and how to get the most out of it. Led by an expert in the industry, this course will focus on practical skills training but also include essential theory knowledge and sensory training to ensure learners feel confident working to a high standard. The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace and is aimed at all operatives that serve coffee and other hot and/or cold beverages in a range of hospitality or catering settings. This qualification provides learners with specialist knowledge and skills in the hot and cold beverage sector.

Candidates must possess a minimum Level 1 understanding in Literacy & Numeracy

Topics include:

  • The types and characteristics of different hot and cold beverages

  • The types of ingredients available

  • Serving customers to organisational standards

  • Preparing and serving a variety of beverages

  • Where coffee comes from T

  • asting and flavour profiles

  • The perfect espresso

  • Mastering milk textures

  • Latte art

  • Cold & iced drinks for café service

  • Alternative milks

  • The importance of Allergen Awareness

  • Food Safety in Catering

    Each trainee will build their own barista skills portfolio of evidence and complete a practical assessment for successful completion in order to receive a Highfield Accredited Certificate and Qualification.

    Hub International will support learning throughout this course and should it be required will provide a training reference to support work application.
